A new festival has been created to take the place of the Bach Week Festival, which ended in 2024 after 51 years.

Bach in the City will host its inaugural performance on March 21, 2025, coinciding with the Baroque composer’s birth anniversary. The concert will be led by the festival’s founder, Richard Webster, who helmed the Bach Week Festival for half a century.

Featuring renowned ensemble Gaudete Brass and organist Jacob Reed, the festival’s premiere concert will be held at Lincoln Park’s historic St. Vincent de Paul Church. The program will include motets and a fantasy and fugue by Johann Sebastian Bach, as well as works by other Baroque-era composers.

On the same day, the Bach in the City Festival will participate in Bach in the Subways, an international outreach initiative dedicated to sharing music of Bach in public spaces. Additional details will be shared in the coming weeks.

The festival is in its early stages; at this time, no further concerts have been announced.
