This year, a lot of major annual fireworks displays won't be taking place (including the annual Chicago spectacle at Navy Pier), but WFMT has you covered with a playlist of pyrotechnic classical music. It's got the usual classical suspects: Handel's Music for the Royal Fireworks, Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture, and Debussy's Feux d'artifice. I've also found a couple of lesser known pieces about fireworks by Erik Satie and Howard Hanson, plus some less literal choices: A Short Ride in a Fast Machine, the main title from Star Wars, and Robert Nathaniel Dett's Dance of Desire. You'll also hear picks by Arturo Márquez, Florence Price, John Psathas, and Leonard Bernstein; and some particularly fiery selections by Jennifer Higdon and Elliott Carter.
Enjoy your day off, and stay safe.
